Amado M. Peña III was born in Austin to artist parents. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a specialization in Painting from Texas State University San Marcos, and currently resides in Albuquerque, where he is pursuing an MFA at the University of New Mexico.

As a part of the collaborative project between Tamarind Institute and UNM, Amado & Sarah produced a series of monoprints, as well as a 1-run lithograph on handmade Japanese paper.

Amado was born with a number of malformations collectively known as VATER/VACTERL Association. This disability informs not just his daily life but all of his work. Interstitial Space is part of a broader series in which Amado explores his history of medical trauma during childhood.
